Kidmedic

Paediatric emergency medication for emergency medical services and paediatric emergency teams.

Kidmedic is an iOS app for iPhone and iPad that helps emergency physicians, paediatric emergency physicians and EMS teams calculate emergency medications for children quickly and traceably – from resuscitation to analgosedation.

Use in EMS and paediatric emergency medicine

Kidmedic is aimed at healthcare professionals who regularly work with paediatric emergencies – especially in the pre-hospital setting:

  • Emergency medical services, rapid response vehicles and paediatric emergency physicians
  • Emergency departments and resuscitation rooms with paediatric patients
  • Intensive care units and operating areas with paediatric cases
  • Paediatric wards and paediatric emergency practices

The goal is to reduce calculation errors, present dosages traceably and support team communication – without rigid therapy pathways or automatic treatment recommendations.

Key features at a glance

Quick access to the right dose

In an emergency, dosages for children must be determined quickly and traceably. Kidmedic helps the treatment team calculate doses in a structured way and present them clearly – from resuscitation to analgosedation, from bolus administration to infusion pump.

Augmented reality: measure height with the camera

With integrated AR measurement, Kidmedic captures the child's height directly via the device camera. From this measurement the app automatically derives a typical weight and the appropriate Broselow zone – especially helpful when the child cannot be weighed.

Aligned with the Broselow scale

Weight classes and height ranges are aligned with Broselow zones. Quick selection and results views use the familiar colour coding so patients, equipment and dosages can be classified along a well-known zone model.

Transparent medication view

For each combination of weight and indication, Kidmedic shows:

  • Dose per kilogram of body weight
  • Total dose per minute for the current weight
  • Flow rate in ml/h for infusion pump medications
  • Volume in ml for bolus doses
  • optional notes, maximum doses and dilution schemes

The display is structured so it remains clear at all times how a dose results from weight, concentration and target parameter.

DIVI colour coding according to ISO 26825

Kidmedic uses DIVI syringe labelling to reduce medication errors. Each medication card is assigned to a DIVI colour group; narrow colour strips or full-area labels can be displayed – matching many resuscitation trolley concepts in EMS and hospital settings.

User concept and patient entry

Kidmedic's start screen is deliberately kept classic: clear cards, familiar iOS controls, unambiguous hierarchy. Depending on the situation, responders can choose different paths to obtain a reliable weight estimate:

  • Direct weight entry – primary and most accurate approach
  • Age – years and months with derived typical weight
  • Height – enter manually or measure via AR
  • Broselow quick selection – predefined weights with colour coding

Once entry is valid, Kidmedic calculates the appropriate Broselow zone, sets the working weight and switches to the results view with vital parameters, airway data and medication options.

Safety, responsibility and beta status

Kidmedic is a support tool for healthcare professionals and does not replace guidelines or clinical experience.

  • All dosages must always be verified against current guidelines, internal standards and at least one additional source.
  • Kidmedic is in beta; content, dosages and features may change.
  • Final responsibility for diagnostics and therapy always lies with the treating clinician.

The data basis is stored locally in the app; camera access is required solely for AR size measurement. No cloud connection is needed.
